Our highly regarded Alzheimer's/Dementia programs offer residents comfort, stimulation and socialization in a secure environment.  Our specialized staff evaluates each dementia patient and creates a plan of care that best suits that individual.  Having social interaction proves to slow the progression of dementia and therefore we encourage socialization through group activities and appropriate therapies.

Dementia is not a single disorder, but rather a combination of age-related symptoms involving a loss of mental skills and deteriorating brain function. Patients with dementia gradually lose memory, communication skills, the ability to reason, and the facility to complete the tasks of everyday living.

Alzheimer's / Dementia Care

In the United States, about 2,000,000 people are living with limb loss. Every year, 185,000 people undergo an amputation, with below-the-knee amputations most
common. With that number expected to double over the next few decades, the need for rehabilitation is likely to grow.

The primary goal of our Amputation Therapy programs is to help regain function. This includes the ability to manage daily self-care. This can be very difficult for a new amputee, but our team is with you at all times to help you become successful and independent.

We also prepare patients for use of a prosthesis, if applicable. This process takes time and specialized care. Physical and occupational therapists address each person’s unique needs for returning to your home and community. Medication management, pain control and healing of the incision are all priorities for the interdisciplinary care team.

Amputation Therapy

Our Bariatric Program helps our residents  lose weight and regain mobility. The program provides an interdisciplinary approach for the severely obese patient and combines rehabilitation, weight loss management, behavioral techniques, nutrition education, stress management and group support.

Residents receive intensive physical and occupational therapy that helps promote mobility and independence. Exercise is a major focus of the program. 

Our dedicated units offer specialized equipment and living accommodations necessary to treat bariatric residents in a comfortable and safe environment. Daily recreation programs provide computer access, movies, exercise groups, entertainment and a variety of other activities.

Dietitians plan healthy menus and teach residents about nutrition facts and how to make healthy food choices. Residents can choose from a wide variety of nutritious meals that are based on individual food preferences and medical status.

Individual, group and family counseling is provided as well as some form of daily psychotherapy by our full-time social workers. Weekly wellness meetings encourage communication between participants and staff providing support, validation and camaraderie. Residents return home with tools they need to develop and maintain a healthy, productive life.

We do understand that obesity can be associated with many life threatening illness as well as emotional suffering. Our program is the perfect place to take the first steps back  to physical and emotional wellness.

Cardiac care is recommended for patients who have experienced a heart attack,

Cardiac Rehabilitation

__Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT)__ is a treatment method that uses highly pressurized oxygen to speed up healing of certain injuries, infections and disease conditions. This treatment has been FDA-approved for use in patients with several conditions, including carbon monoxide poisoning and severe burns, but has also proven effective in off-label treatments in numerous systems of the body.


__Reasons For HBOT__

Hyperbaric oxygen treatments are used for a wide variety of purposes, frequently with great success. Although HBOT is commonly used to treat wounds, infections and other temporary conditions, it can also help improve chronic neurological, vascular and ophthalmic conditions.


__FDA Approved Uses Of HBOT__

The most common uses of HBOT are for treating wounds that are not healing normally and certain types of toxicity. The FDA approves HBOT as a method of treatment for:

- Air or gas embolism
- Carbon monoxide poisoning
- Crush injury
- Decompression sickness, commonly known as "the bends"
- Healing of diabetic wounds
- Anemia
- Intracranial abscess
- Necrotizing fasciitis
- Osteomyelitis (bone infection)
- Radiation injury
- Skin grafts
- Serious burns


__Off-Label Uses Of HBOT__

Many patients with neurological conditions lack sufficient oxygen and blood flow to the brain. During HBOT, oxygen is forced into the brain and once-dormant areas can be reawakened. For this reason, although not yet officially FDA-approved for neurological conditions, HBOT has proved helpful in improving gross and fine motor skills, vision, hearing and speech function after traumatic brain injury.

The healing powers of HBOT have also been reported in treating disorders in other specialties. HBOT has been shown to result in improvement in patients with the following conditions, even though its use in such cases is not yet FDA-approved there is anecdotal evidence to support claims of improved functioning after HBOT in patients with:

- Cerebral palsy or multiple sclerosis
- Stroke or brain injury
- Cancer or HIV
- Heart attack
- Fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome
- Autism
- Allergies, arthritis, cirrhosis
- Gastrointestinal ulcers
- Certain eye diseases

It is difficult to refute such claims since nearly any type of disorder can benefit from increased oxygen levels.


__The HBOT Procedure__

During HBOT treatment sessions, patients are placed in a chamber with increased atmospheric pressure that allows them to breathe in oxygen under three times more pressure than the oxygen in normal air. As the increased oxygen levels saturate the tissues of the body, the body's natural healing process is stimulated, enabling new blood vessels to grow, inflammation to decrease, toxins to be deactivated and infections to be resisted. Patients remain in the hyperbaric chamber for between 1 and 2 hours.

In order for patients to see effective results from HBOT, treatment sessions may be required every day for up to 6 weeks.

__Intravenous, or IV, therapy__ has become a frequent treatment technique at skilled nursing facilities across the country. IV therapy is sometimes referred to as a drip, since many IV therapy systems employ a drip chamber designed to prevent any air from entering the bloodstream. IV therapy offers numerous benefits, including correcting fluid imbalances and administering medications.

Many patients admitted to a hospital require some form of IV therapy, while some patients may need IV therapy on a long-term basis. As typical patient hospital stays are becoming shorter, IV therapy can be a valuable treatment method that is performed in an extended care facility under the direction of a physician and carried out by skilled nursing staff.

Intravenous, or IV, therapy has become a frequent treatment technique at skilled nursing facilities across the country.

Stroke Recovery

Our Traumatic Brain Injury residents are recovering from physical, psychological, and cognitive impairments from their acquired injury.  Our goal is to provide a comprehensive rehabilitation program to maximize our resident’s recovery. TPN (total parenteral nutrition) is a complete form of nutrition given into the blood through a vein (intravenously) by a central line.

The patient may be on TPN if they have a digestive problem that prevents them from getting their nutrition by mouth or feeding tube. Conditions include, short bowel syndrome, motility disorders, absorptive disorders or other conditions that can cause intestinal failure.

Some patients on TPN get part of their nutrition by mouth or feeding tube; some take TPN only. We offer patients the full spectrum of services for intestinal failure.

A tracheostomy is an opening through the neck and into the trachea that opens the airway and aides breathing. Depending on the patient's condition - Tracheostomy's may be temporary or permanently. 

Tracheostomy Care

A wound is a break in the skin or tissues that may be caused by an accident, injury, surgery, disease or several other factors, and often involves bleeding, redness, swelling, pain, tenderness and other symptoms. They may occur nearly anywhere on the body. While many wounds can be treated at home by simply cleaning and bandaging the wound, more severe wounds may require professional care.

Many patients with skin ulcers, burns and other types of wounds face difficulty with the healing process for these troubling wounds, especially if the patient is diabetic. There are several different treatment options available for wounds resistant to conventional therapies. Some of these may include creams, ointments, synthetic skin grafts and other therapies that promote natural healing within the skin to avoid wound complications.

We are proud to offer patients many advanced solutions to their wound healing problems. It is important for wounds to remain clean and free of debris and bacteria in order to properly heal and prevent infection, so proper dressings that are changed on a regular basis are essential. We provide wound care treatment that is conducive to healing and helps lead toward a quick and efficient recovery, while keeping cosmetic concerns in mind as well.

__Diabetic Wound Management__

People with diabetes are at high risk for developing problems with their feet. Ulcers and other wounds commonly form on the bottom of the foot and can easily become infected or lead to other serious complications. Ulcers may develop as a result of poor circulation, lack of feeling in the feet, irritation or trauma.

Once a wound has been detected, it should be treated immediately in order to prevent complications from developing. Diabetic wound treatment focuses on relieving pressure from the area and removing dead skin cells and tissue through a process called debridement. The wound is then medicated and dressed to prevent infection and promote healing. For more severe wounds, patients may be required to wear special footwear or a brace to relieve pressure and irritation to the wound.
